How I will spend the 10 hours each week I used to devote to the campaign?

Hipsters will start moving back to Brooklyn from Obama campaign offices in Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado shortly

The Obama Youth will start moving back to Brooklyn from Obama campaign offices in Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado shortly

23/6 has an interesting blogpost on the subject:

The Times‘ Alan Krueger cites a Bureau of Labor Statistics chart that in 2004 our time use before and after the election barely changed. Of course, maybe that’s because John Kerry (we nominated him?) put us into some sort of zombie stupor.

Krueger concludes that “small changes in how we spend our time weigh heavily on our perceptions of how we spend our time. If we spend an extra 30 minutes a night watching the news in the run-up to an election, we may feel like we have greatly changed our lives.” Yeah, well, speak for yourself Krueger — we changed our lives and now we feel empty inside.

My belief is that all of us good liberal youth will go back to what we spent those 10 hours doing before we started phonebanking. We will shed our all-Obama t-shirt collection and return to wearing GOP, “truck nutz”, and church youth group t-shirts. We will start checking Stereogum and Fluxblog every ten minutes instead of 538, Politico, and Andrew Sullivan.

In short, we will return to our natural life cycle of attending tiny indie-rock shows in divebars and garages, writing letters of protest to the General Assembly, and changing our majors. Hipsters will once become a powerful force in America today. We will return to writing critiques of Joy Division albums and never-completed novels instead of political propaganda.
